I’ve been a fan of Matt Lawson’s Secret Colors project since first hearing Higher Views, his 2012 cassette on Bridgetown. He’s had many releases on a number of labels before and since, and I’m honored to have his latest beautiful release, Passing Through Again, end up on Lillerne. This tape has every jangly high and sweetly melancholic low to have already defined it as my summer soundtrack. “Strawberry Kiwi” opens the album with shimmery guitar loops peaceful drones, while later tracks like “Almost Suspended” and “Now and Then and When” are longer form ambient pieces with truly stunning peaks and valleys. Passing Through Again is a real journey from its spry, light-footed beginning to its powerfully expansive finish—I’m hoping you’ll listen to and consider this tape as much as I have! Edition of 50 pro-dubbed Chrome/Type II cassettes with full-color, double-sided artwork.
