Recorded in Hell is Zach Phillips' second cassette on Lillerne, and a sequel of sorts to his 2013 release, Recorded in Heaven. While Heaven clocked in at the 19 song mark in a 30 minute span, Hell packs 25 songs into the same amount of time. Each is stripped to simply Phillips' vocals and piano tracks, EQ'd within the 4-track recorder, and all of the recordings done live without overdubs or external effects. There is a clarity that exists in these songs due to the simplicity of the recording process. ZP creates a space that allows for the piano leads/melodies and lyrical content to exist and be heard without superfluous edits or layering of effects. What comes out is a deeply intimate and personal document. Smart and humorous lyrics mix with stark, honest truths, and every word is decipherable and meaningful. A concise, beautiful example of songwriting's power and weight. Edition of 75, home-dubbed Type II/chrome cassettes.
