Primitive Fiction is Ian Franklin (Shredderghost) and Mike Nigro (Nigro, Oxtail Recordings) blazing some truly moody and immersive trails during a single day session in 2015. Hauntingly sparse moments of bending, metallic strings and bass swells clash with huge, buzzing synth drones—all the while the pace is deliberate and patient, leaving the listener wonderfully comfortably uncomfortable, rather than shocked, when a new melody or layer is unleashed. Stone Fruit manages to feel heavy and hulking and always about ready to rip away at the seams, while managing to stay on its beautifully rhythmic and hypnotic track. Intense and important fall/winter mood music, to be sure. Edition of 50 pro-dubbed and imprinted Type II/Chrome cassettes with full-color, double-sided artwork by Matt Sage.
A simple yet effective sonic balm and contactless massage for our interesting troubled times. Nice body trip which can have pleasant mental side-effects. (Written in Sept. 2020) JLP
