It’s an honor to give Daniel Wyche’s The Fire in the Lacquer House a second edition. The first, a beautiful cassette on Pretty All Right, was released last spring and has been in regular rotation ever since. Wyche performs two tracks based on a score by Jonathan Lang (“The Fire in the Lacquer House”) and a chord progression by Ted Gordon (“The Burning of the Khandava Forest”). In doing so, he creates glistening layers of manipulated guitar tones that playfully intertwine and rise/fall against one another in a truly mesmerizing fashion. “The Burning of the Khandava Forest” enters into somewhat harsher realms of squealing guitars and feedback, but it takes the listener on a patient and engross path before arriving at its conclusion. A set of truly original and powerful pieces by one of my favorite guitarists/performers in Chicago. An edition of 50 pro-dubbed Chrome/Type II cassettes with full color, double-sided artwork.
