Potions, aka Tom Owens, returns to Lillerne with a second release after a slew of tapes on Teen River, and his own Pretty All Right imprint. The previous Lillerne cassette, last year's split with Sky Stadium, showed Owens' ability to craft thick, rhythmic slabs of synth ambience and drum machine abstraction. While this tape has the recognizable Space Echo'd production and improvisational spirit of the Potions catalog, it also demonstrates a true ear for song craft and an even bigger melodic and stylistic range. Seeing Owens create these songs in a live environment is truly inspiring. He pushes his keyboards, samplers and effects to their respective limits at all times. 'Cosmic Fidelity' is as good of an example of the impressive range of a live Potions set that I've yet heard committed to tape. Edition of 50 home-dubbed and labeled Chrome cassettes. Exquisite, relaxing, and quite trippy, this release is a highlight of the vast ctatsu sound exhibit. Be warned: listening to this music can lead to sustained higher levels of consciousness that can be hazardous to the practice of conformity and consumerism. JLP
